NCP Talk with Chiara - Trainee in human resource management

Tell us a little about yourself:

My name is Chiara, and I have been working as a trainee in human resource management alongside our management team since October 2022. Participating in this cooperative program allows me to apply the theoretical concepts from my university studies directly to my work at NCP while also gaining valuable early experience in a professional setting.

In my role, I am responsible for active recruiting, serve as the contact person for our time management program, and collaborate with the marketing department to plan employer branding projects.

In addition to your work at NCP, you are studying human resources management. How do you manage to reconcile the two?

After two and a half years, I have established a routine, but it remains somewhat exhausting during exam periods. Fortunately, I receive support from my colleagues, especially with written assignments, which makes things easier.

What does a typical week look like for a student trainee at NCP?

I work a total of 20 hours from Monday to Wednesday. During this period, I handle job postings, manage applications, and plan recruitment projects. I frequently collaborate with other departments, particularly the development team, to recruit new software developers. On Thursdays and Fridays, I attend lectures. Afterward, I often go for coffee with my fellow students, depending on whether the events are online or in person.

Would you recommend NCP for cooperative study? Why?

Absolutely. Since NCP manages nearly all processes in-house, you gain direct insight into various areas. For instance, my study program included a focus on marketing. I was able to transition directly to our marketing team for the duration of this course, where I could observe and actively participate. In contrast, my fellow students working at recruitment agencies do not have this opportunity at all.

Additionally, my colleagues are always willing to help whenever they can. No matter what tasks I had to complete for the university, I could consistently rely on support from my colleagues, regardless of their department.

As a cooperative study student, you have insights into both work and student life. What do you prefer?

I enjoy the benefits that student life brings, but I must admit that I prefer working. Although lectures usually do not last as long as a full working day, the content still requires preparation. Additionally, lectures, exams, and homework consume a significant amount of free time. When my working day ends, I find it easier to switch off because there are no more work-related tasks to address.

Human resources is very much a people role. How did this influence your decision for this department?

That was one of the reasons I chose to study human resources management. I enjoy working with others and being the person people turn to with their concerns. Even if I can't always help directly, I at least know who to approach. You will encounter people with very different personalities, which often opens up perspectives I might not have considered otherwise. I find that very enriching!

Life is not all about work. What do you like to do in your spare time?

I strive to balance my daily office life – whenever time permits – with sports. I enjoy going to the gym. In summer, I also love to ride my motorcycle or spin around on a jet ski with my friends.

At NCP, you are responsible for many organizational things. Do you often end up organizing things when you are with your friends?

We always try new things, and the person who has a new idea tends to organize them. I also coordinate appointments. Sometimes, I help my friends by reviewing their CVs or asking them a few questions in preparation for an interview. In any case, I am always happy to help because I can gain new perspectives for my work.

Thank you for your time and the friendly interview.
